This disproportionate amount of energy is used to create electricity in approximately 100 billion interconnected neurons. Quantitative EEG is a real-time movie of the electrical activity of the preconscious and conscious mind at frequencies of approximately 1–300 Hz. Numerous studies have cross-validated electrical neuroimaging by structural MRI, functional MRI and diffusion spectral imaging and thereby demonstrated how quantitative EEG can aid in linking a patient’s symptoms and complaints to functional specialization in the brain. Electrical neuroimaging provides an inexpensive millisecond measure of functional modules, including the animation of structures through phase shift and phase lock. Today, neuropsychiatrists use these methods to link a patient’s symptoms and complaints to functional specialization in the brain and use this information to implement treatment via brain–computer Interfaces and neurofeedback technology.

Electrical activity of each brain region is homeostatically regulated, resulting in predictable frequency composition of the background EEG. Replicated normative databases have established that the EEG power spectrum is independent of ethnic background. Artifact-free EEG evaluated relative to such norms displays few deviant values in healthy, normally functioning individuals. In subjects with p...

We wished to assess the frequency of EEG positivity with our available EEG technology to compare with those elsewhere. Between April 1996 to February 1997, of patients referred to the Pediatric Neurology Out-patient Clinic for assessment of seizure disorders, 202 randomly selected patients aged 16 months to 17 years (mean 8.96 years) underwent a 10-minute inter-ictal EEG recording using a ...

متن کاملElectroencephalography in Neuropsychiatry
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a noninvasive, widely available, and relatively inexpensive test that can help exclude or identify structural or functional factors contributing to psychiatric syndromes. This article defines the clinical usefulness of EEG in evaluating neuropsychiatric disorders, emphasizing the complementary nature of the visually inspected standard EEG (SEEG) and the computera...

OBJECTIVE The discipline of clinical neuropsychiatry currently provides specialised services for a number of conditions that cross the traditional boundaries of neurology and psychiatry, including non-epileptic attack disorder. Neurophysiological investigations have an important role within neuropsychiatry services, with video-electroencephalography (EEG) telemetry being the gold standard inves...
